Royal St. George’s College – Renovations and Expansion

About This Project

Toronto, Ontario
Phase two of the additions and renovations to Royal St. George`s College is part of the Master Plan for the Campus designed by Andrew Bogdan Kemp Architects. This phase of the project, executed in association with Les Andrew of Andrew Incorporated Architect, included improvement to the outdoor play areas, greening of the campus, new underground parking garage, a new multi-purpose drama room, additions and renovations to the existing See House building, and a new lobby and access for the existing chapel.

The space defined by the new construction and existing buildings was designed as the new student activity and play space. This is primarily a pedestrian court, into which traffic is allowed only for pick-up and drop-off, or for special events. The vast majority of the time it is a combination of circulation space, play space and social space and free of vehicles.

The building and Landscape areas were designed keeping in mind LEED silver principles and as such incorporates numerous sustainable design initiatives. Consideration was given to energy efficient mechanical and electrical systems, recycling of storm water for irrigation and sanitary use and selection of local materials.
