Bogdan Newman Caranci Inc. was retained by the City of Hamilton to prepare a set of urban design guidelines for the Strathcona neighbourhood. On the completion of a commercial review for the neighbourhood of Strathcona, Bogdan Newman Caranci Inc was asked to provide a series of urban design guidelines to address future development along five major arterial corridors. Sites were selected that illustrated different typical conditions. Options for mixed use and re development were explored and computer modeling was used to show how sustainable, high quality development of the corridors could improve pedestrian amenities and the public realm. Guidelines were created to develop a response to surrounding architectural massing and heritage context, while solving issues of site access, streetscape, and transit and architectural character. Implementation strategies have been provided within the document to help the City adopt the various built form and streetscape guidelines for residential, mixed use and commercial development.
Bogdan Newman Caranci Inc. was also responsible for preparing illustration and diagrams and helped facilitate the creation of the Hamilton Transit Oriented Guidelines previous to this project.
